Professor Anne Anderson

Professor Anne Anderson is an acclaimed author, broadcaster and art historian, and one of Travel Editions’ most popular tour experts. A Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and Honorary Professor at the University of Exeter, she is particularly known for her expertise in the Aesthetic Movement, Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modernism.

With a first degree in archaeology and a PhD in English, Anne was a senior lecturer in Art and Design History at Southampton Solent University for 14 years, teaching on its Fine Arts Valuation degree programmes. She has since lectured for organisations including The Arts Society, the Art Fund, the National Trust, Christie’s and the V&A Learning Department, and her career as an international speaker has taken her across Europe, North America, New Zealand and Australia.

Anne has published extensively in academic and specialist journals and is the author of several books. These include Art Nouveau Architecture and The Perseus Series, which was updated to accompany Tate Britain’s 2018 Edward Burne-Jones exhibition. She has also curated four national exhibitions, including Beyond the Brotherhood: The Pre-Raphaelite Legacy.

For Travel Editions, Anne leads a varied programme of UK and overseas tours exploring the art, architecture and decorative design she knows and loves. Her tours range from the Arts and Crafts and Pre-Raphaelite heritage of northern England to the Art Nouveau architecture of Nancy, Dresden and other European cities. Through carefully considered lectures and guided visits, she reveals the artists, designers, patrons and social ideas behind the buildings and collections encountered.

Anne has received a rapturous response from Travel Editions travellers over many years. Her exceptional knowledge, wit and infectious enthusiasm bring her beloved subjects vividly to life, while her accessible style helps guests see familiar works and places from a fresh perspective.
