Ellen’s lifelong love of travel began with a gap year and developed into a career spanning four decades. Her journeys have taken her around the world, from standing before Petra’s Treasury in Jordan to cycling through the rural landscapes of Vietnam. Wherever she travels, Ellen believes that the best way to understand a destination is through its local culture, cuisine and everyday life.

Portugal holds a special place in her heart. After returning time and again over the years, Ellen has built a knowledge of the country and longstanding relationships with local suppliers, many of whom have become friends. This personal connection shapes the itineraries she creates for Travel Editions, revealing Portugal beyond its familiar image of sunshine, beaches and golf courses.

Her tours range from the historic cities, river valleys and mountain communities featured in Portugal Uncovered to the villages, landscapes and regional cuisine of the Alentejo. She also created the Authentic Algarve tour to introduce travellers to the quieter towns, traditions and natural beauty of a region she has loved for decades. Each itinerary combines landmarks with lesser-known places and experiences that offer a more authentic sense of Portuguese life.

As Travel Editions’ Head of Sales & Marketing, Ellen also oversees the company’s Private Groups department and manages feedback from returning travellers. She acts as tour manager on many of the Portugal departures she has developed, bringing organisation, warmth and knowledge to the journey.

Ellen’s enthusiasm, personal friendships and affection for Portugal give her tours a distinctive character. Travellers benefit not only from her experience, but from the pleasure she takes in sharing the landscapes, flavours, stories and people that have made the country so important to her today.
