Dr Elizabeth Norton

A British historian, archaeologist, author and broadcaster, Elizabeth specialises in the medieval and early modern periods, with particular interests in the Tudor dynasty and the queens of England.

She holds a double first-class degree from the University of Cambridge, a master’s in European Archaeology from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Early Modern British History from King’s College London, and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. She has taught History at King’s and lectured and tutored in Archaeology at Oxford, combining detailed academic research with a clear and accessible approach to the past.

Elizabeth has published widely and is the author of the critically acclaimed The Lives of Tudor Women and England’s Queens: The Biography — the first comprehensive study of English queenship from the Roman period to the present. Her other works include The Temptation of Elizabeth Tudor and biographies of Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Parr, Margaret Beaufort and Bessie Blount.

She regularly appears as an expert on television documentaries and has worked as a historical consultant for both film and television. Her credits include the BBC series The Boleyns: A Scandalous Family, on which she also served as historical adviser.
